Through the media of film, printmaking, sculpture, sound, and painting, artists Sophie Hamacher and Aliza Sternstein plumb the possibilities of describing the heart outside of the boundaries of symbolic image.  Hamacher's interdisciplinary work (presented here in the form of an immersive installation, from which the exhibition title is derived) creates a carefully-calibrated space of inquiry and discovery around the motif, while Sternstein's process-oriented, materially expansive paintings provide an emotive counterpoint.  As an anchor to the exhibit, Hamacher's 2025 film Visio Cordis explores the topic of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (or broken heart syndrome) from both medical and symbolic perspectives. Piece of my Heart: A Laboratory looks at heartbreak as a lived experience that is simultaneously physical and emotional.
