Â鶹´«Ã½professor organizes 'Science Night' for Feb. 8th at Massabesic Middle School
More than 20 Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty and students will participate in "Science Night: See, Do and Learn" to be held on Monday, Feb. 8 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Massabesic Middle School for Waterboro Elementary School students.
The free event is sponsored by the Waterboro Elementary School Parent-Teacher Committee and was organized by Â鶹´«Ã½professor, Jane O'Brien, Ph.D., OTR/L along with Kara Beal, an education technician in the Waterboro school system. Last year more than 300 children and their families participated.
Presentations will include demonstrations from students in UNE's Chemistry and Pharmacy clubs, and Â鶹´«Ã½graduate students in biology and occupational therapy will address subjects including the human brain, fishes from Maine and coordination and motor planning.
The event will also feature scientists from Massabesic Middle and High schools, and community scientists including Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman who will talk about "Big Foot and friends," Dr. Frank Goudreau from Goodall Orthopaedics, David Glenn of the National Weather Station, Deputy Vachon from the Maine Sheriff's Department, and Gordon Corbett, a "Teacher in Space" finalist who trained with NASA - he will talk about lighthouses of Maine and how they work.
The event is free and open to the public.
