Students Lauren Ball and Kari Pelletier honored by Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance
The Department of Business and Communications is pleased to announce that Lauren Ball '12 and Kari Anna Pelletier '12, Sport Management majors, were recently recognized as "Outstanding Future Professionals" by the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MAHPERD).
The recognition took place at MAHPER's annual conference in Rockport, Maine on Monday, Nov. 8. Each year the Colleges and Universities in Maine with academic programs in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and sport-related professional fields are encouraged to nominate two OFPs from their institution. Â鶹´«Ã½has participated in this program since 2006; identifying outstanding future professionals from Exercise and Sport Performance, and from Sport Management.
Ball, from Milton, Vermont, has achieved Dean's List status every semester at Â鶹´«Ã½and was inducted into Alphi Chi Honor Society her Junior year. In addition to her major in Sport Management, Ball is earning minors in both Business Administration and Communications.
Pelletier, from South Paris, Maine, has achieved Dean's List status five of six semesters at Â鶹´«Ã½and is currently in her fourth-year as a member of the women's basketball team and second year as a team co-captain. In addition to her major in Sport Management, Pelletier is earning a minor in Business Administration.
The Sport Management program at Â鶹´«Ã½requires all majors to complete a significant internship experience(s) of no less that 480 contact hours; after having completed their junior year. Ball interned this past summer with the Burlington Free Press (sports writing) and this fall with the Maine Senior Games. Pelletier interned this past summer and fall with the Maine Red Claws.
