Â鶹´«Ã½faculty and staff present sessions at Maine Geriatrics Conference
The UNECOM Department of Geriatric Medicine, UNECOM Office of Continuing Medical Education, and Maine Geriatrics Conference Planning Committee planned and executed a very successful 22nd Annual Maine Geriatrics Conference, June 7-8, 2012 at the Harborside Hotel in Bar Harbor, Maine. Â鶹´«Ã½was well represented at this conference. The following faculty were presenters:
(1) Kevin L. Wallace, MD, associate professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Â鶹´«Ã½College of Pharmacy, presented 2 workshops entitled: Perilous Polypharmacy
(2) Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D., UNECOM director of geriatric education and research, and Kira Rodriguez, MHS, research associate, Â鶹´«Ã½Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research, presented with Romaine Turyn, MA, and Jessica Maurer, Esq. from the State a session entitled: Aging in Maine: 2012 Statewide Aging Needs Assessment Outcomes and Highlights of the State Plan for Aging. Dr Gugliucci and Ms Rodriguez conducted the Assessment that provided the data for the State Plan on Aging.
(3) Judith Metcalf, APRN, MS, director of the Maine Geriatric Education Center, presented a workshop entitled: Â鶹´«Ã½Maine Geriatric Education Center: Overview of Project Goals and Activities.
(4) Dr. Gugliucci, Kara Janes, MSW, and Evan Carroll, an architect, presented a workshop entitled: Learning by Living: A Social Worker Student's and Architect's Experiences. Mr Carroll and Ms Janes were the first in their fields to participate in the Learning by Living Research Project and live as an older adult nursing home resident for 2 weeks each.
At the close of the conference, Dr. Gugliucci turned over the presidency of the Maine Gerontological Society to Valerie S. Sauda, RN-BC, MS, Geriatric Nursing Service Instructor,Rosscare, Bangor. Dr Gugliucci will fulfill the MGS Past-president's role on the MGS board for one year. The 23rd Annual Maine Geriatrics Conference is scheduled for June 13-14, 2013 at the Harborside Hotel in Bar Harbor.
