Ryan Camire publishes manuscript as first author

Nursing major Ryan Camire ‘15 recently had his manuscript, “Biphasic Modulation of Paracellular Claudin-5 Expression in Mouse Brain Endothelial Cells is Mediated Through the PI3K/AKT Pathway” published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. The manuscript was co-authored by Holly J. Beaulac, M.S., lab manager in the Department of Neuroscience, Colin L. Willis, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmacology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Stephanie A. Brule, B.S., and 鶹ýneuroscience students Annie I. McGregor and Emily E. Lauria.

The paper explores the cellular mechanisms that regulate the neurovascular system. Camire collected the information for this text while working as a research assistant for Willis over a three-year period. During this time, he was responsible for lab techniques including cell culturing, Western blotting, immunoassays, protein assays, and fluorescent microscopy.

Camire presented much of the data in his manuscript at Darmouth Hitchcock Medical Center’s NeuroScience day in 2013.
