UNE’s announced as recipient of AAAS K-12 STEM Volunteer Program Grant

The Â鶹´«Ã½ was announced as a recipient of the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s K-12 National Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Volunteer Program grant on the AAAS website on April 29, 2014.

Â鶹´«Ã½was among seven winners of the grant.  Each organization received approximately $12,000 to develop and implement programs that will connect STEM professionals with local K-12 educators.

Specifically, UNE’s Center for Excellence in Neurosciences (CEN), directed by Edward Bilsky, Ph.D., vice president for Research and Scholarship, and the Marine Science Center, directed by Barry Costa-Pierce, Ph.D., Henry L . and Grace Doherty Chair of the Department of Marine Sciences, will receive the grant funding.

According to the AAAS’ website, “The Â鶹´«Ã½ program will seek volunteers from community foundations and local technology companies in addition to university faculty, staff and students.â€

Michael Burman, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and faculty in CEN, serves as the Outreach Coordinator for UNE’s K-12 program.
