Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences receives funding for new project
Tamara King, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and faculty member from the 鶹ý’s Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences, has received funding a new research project.
King recently received a $14,200 contract from RAPT Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, to study the immune factors involved in knee joint osteoarthritis.
King’s project, “Evaluate the analgesic efficacy of an orally administered novel RAPT compound in a murine osteoarthritis model,” will assess pain behaviors and determine what immune factors might be contributing to knee joint pain.
The model used for this study is one that has been previously developed by the lab.
RAPT Therapeutics’ mission is to conquer cancer and inflammatory disease through the development of oral therapeutics that target key drivers of the immune system. Funding for King’s contract from the biotechnology company will support the project for the next 12 months.
