Shireen Rahman, Ed.D., ATC, CISSN
Location
Dr. Rahman is a Clinical Professor in the Exercise and Sport Performance Department located in the Harold Alfond Forum. She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Canisius College, and Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from Frostburg State University. She worked towards her doctorate degree at West Virginia University in Exercise Physiology with a concentration of Endocrinology before coming to Maine to work at Maine Medical Center as their Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Athletic Trainer. She received her Certificate of Program Development from the Medical Education Leadership Program at the Â鶹´«Ã½. She completed her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership at the Â鶹´«Ã½.
Dr. Rahman has been at Â鶹´«Ã½for since 2007, where she teaches for the Applied Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Physician Assistant, and Physical Therapy programs. Coursework includes Gross Anatomy, Applied Clinical Gross Anatomy, Exercise Management of Chronic Illness and Disease, Bioenergetics and Metabolism, and Research Methods. She has also taught ECG Interpretation, Fitness Evaluation and Prescription, and Kinesiology.
She has received the Debra J Summers Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence (2009, 2010); the WCHP Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award (2010, 2013, 2023); the WCHP Distinguished Service Award (2013); Â鶹´«Ã½Academic Advising Excellence Award (2018), DPT's Distinguished Academic Service Award (2020); and the Alpha Chi National Honor Society Distinguished Service Award (2020). She also was selected to serve as a Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Teaching Scholar in its inaugural cohort (2020).
Dr. Rahman is a Certified Athletic Trainer and International Society of Sport Nutrition-Certified.
Most importantly, she is a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan. When not driving back and forth to Buffalo, she spends much of her time getting lost in the mountains of Baxter State Park and Western Maine.
