Supporting Students and the Community

We offer programs and services throughout the year aimed at supporting our diverse student body and community. We also help connect you with opportunities to express your religious and spiritual needs.

Campus Climate

The Office of Intercultural Student Engagement monitors the climate of UNE’s individual campuses toward traditionally underrepresented populations and works to improve the climate. Campus Climate surveys are done yearly.

Diversity Leadership Badge

The 鶹ýDiversity Leadership Badge is a co-curricular leadership development program designed to increase students’ awareness about intercultural and social justice issues and provide opportunities for experiential learning with diverse communities. Once you complete the 18+ hour year-long program, you receive a Diversity Leadership Badge that you can include on your 鶹ýco-curricular transcript and resume.

Safe Space

鶹ýSafe Space is a three-hour training program that helps you understand the challenges that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons experience. The program includes reflective exercises, discussion, and interactive activities that help to shape a school culture that is accepting of all people, inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or any other difference. You emerge from the program better prepared to be a supportive and visible ally, and you receive a door sign to let people know you are a “Safe Space,” where they can be open about themselves without fear of criticism or hatred. Everyone deserves to learn and work in an environment that is supportive and friendly, and Safe Space combats the anti-LGBTQ bias that affects school performance and the mental and emotional health of students who experience it.
