What is Continuing Education?
Students who wish to take credit-bearing courses but have not applied for or been formally granted admission to a school or college at either the undergraduate or graduate level are also known as non-degree-seeking students. As a Continuing Education student, you may take courses for professional or personal development, to transfer credits to another university or college, or before applying for an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
What Types of Courses and Programs Are Available?
The Â鶹´«Ã½ provides a diverse range of Continuing Education opportunities across its Biddeford and Portland campuses and through Â鶹´«Ã½Online. Continuing Education at Â鶹´«Ã½is designed for individuals who are not pursuing a formal degree but wish to expand their knowledge, enhance their skills, or explore new fields.
Â鶹´«Ã½online offers a variety of continuing education opportunities, ranging from undergraduate courses for students who need prerequisites for admission to certificate programs, workshops, training, and non-credit-bearing courses. UNE’s Continuing Education offerings provide flexible and accessible learning options to meet your goals.
Continuing Education Policies
- Continuing Education students may only take a maximum of 9 credits per semester as non-degree-seeking students.
- Students must formally apply through the undergraduate or graduate admissions office and be matriculated to earn a degree.
- Only a maximum of 12 credits earned as a non-degree-seeking student may be accepted toward a degree at the University.

Employees who wish to take courses at Â鶹´«Ã½as non-degree-seeking students can apply as Continuing Education students through the Registrar’s Office before submitting the Tuition Grant in Aid Program Request Form. Continuing Professional Education
We offer Continuing Professional Education courses, workshops, conferences, and symposia throughout the year to provide clinicians and administrators with timely and critical information in health care and project management. We also offer a Dental Hygienist/Nitrous Oxide certification program.
Continuing Medical Education
We offer comprehensive services to meet Continuing Medical Education needs nationwide through our College of Osteopathic Medicine.
